Drive Electric Day - the first Saturday in October

DRIVE ELECTRIC DAY - The first Saturday in October each year - A reminder of what it is about:

For numerous reasons, there is growing interest in electric vehicles. Drive Electric Day celebrates this trend, and allows those who have roadworthy electric vehicles to share with the world how great they are; everything from pedal-assisted electric bicycles, hybrid electric cars, to electric vans.

The idea behind “Drive Electric Day” is to get as many battery-powered vehicles on the road simultaneously as we can. We’re encouraging everyone in the UK to get their battery vehicle on the road, somewhere, between 11.30am and 12 noon (at least), and if possible with a big sign in the window saying “I’m an electric vehicle”.

Maybe meet up with some friends at 11ish, in the car park of your local EV-friendly pub or shopping centre, have a bit of a drive out from there at 11.30am, and return there at 12noon for lunch, while you re-charge.

It’s not a formal road-run or anything, but getting as many electric vehicles as we can on the road at the same time is a fun way to raise awareness of battery vehicles, and encourage local businesses (shopping centres, pubs, or wherever) to offer charging facilities.

The event is supported by various members of the Battery Vehicle Society. So maybe get in touch with your local Battery Vehicle Society contact (http://www.BatteryVehicleSociety.org.uk) for advice on arranging a meet-up perhaps, organise something yourself for people in your area, or just get on the road on your own and drive around on the day.

Please join this comunity and make a post to it (or just comment here) to say where you'll be and what you'll be driving, or doing, to support us, on 3rd October 2009.
